Street Photography in Victoria & Vancouver, B.C.
I spent July of 2023 in Bellingham, a small harbor town in northern Washington near the Canadian border, which served as my home base for several trips up to BC.
I’ve had Victoria & Vancouver on my mind for a while, so this part of my itinerary allowed me to make some welcome progress on my very long want-to-go list. Vancouver street photography is a whole lot of fun, and Victoria, with its brilliant, historic architecture is even better.
These are some of my favorite shots taken in and around the two cities.
Once upon a time, there was a moment when I thought I might try to move to British Columbia and even call Victoria home. The bigger cities have my heart, at least at this point in my life and photography career. After spending so much time in New York, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and abroad in cities like México City and Guatemala City, I’m even more sure about this BUT- I’m always up for a break, too.
That’s where my time in smaller cities like Victoria is always, always welcome. I loved how the water felt like a central part of the community, and boats a way of life here. From the huge ferries that can bring you (and your car) across from Vancouver to the quick and easy duck boats that can drop you off at one of many points around Victoria’s Inner Harbour.
It’s a really unique city, and one that I am happy I got to explore. I highly recommend making the trip over, especially if you’re anywhere near the northern Washington or Vancouver area.

VANCOUVER STREET PHOTOGRAPHY
This part of Canada is probably more well-known for activities like skiing, snowboarding, and mountaineering. Returning during the winter remains on my list, but there is plenty to do, and shoot in the city as well.
It’s extremely modern, shiny, futuristic. The wide streets and ultra-clean architecture can make it tough to get the grittier street shots abundant in cities like New York, but Vancouver street photography has a definite charm of its own.
